Search project content¶
gald3r search PATTERN searches project content, including files omitted by
Git ignore rules. PATTERN is a regular expression. Use --path for one file or
a directory, --glob to select filenames within a directory, and --max-results
to limit returned matches.
gald3r search "implementation paths" --path gald3r_project --timeout 30s
gald3r search "review" --path .gald3r/project --json --timeout 1m
Progress and time limits¶
Slow text searches report the current phase and observed progress on stderr
every two seconds. Disable these lines with --progress=false. JSON mode emits
one result object and enables stderr progress only with explicit --progress.
--timeout accepts durations such as 5s, 30s and 1m. The default, 0, adds
no total search deadline. The discovery safety budget remains in effect.
Cancellation is cooperative: a filesystem call already in progress must return
before the command can stop. The command waits for its workers to finish.
When a timeout or discovery interruption occurs, the result carries
incomplete=true, an explanation and any matches from fully validated files.
Matches from an interrupted file are withheld. A partial result with no matches
cannot establish that the pattern is absent. Narrow the path or give the search
more time before relying on a negative result.
| Exit | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 0 | Matches returned, a requested result limit reached, or a completed count query |
| 1 | A completed search found no matches, except count mode |
| 2 | Invalid input, a search error, or an interrupted search, including partial results |
A requested result limit is distinct from interrupted work. Inspect the truncation and incomplete fields when deciding whether returned results cover the question being asked.
Files and sibling repositories¶
A file supplied to --path is searched directly; --glob applies to directories.
Paths must remain within the selected project root. Select another repository
explicitly when searching across a workspace:
gald3r search "pattern" --project-root /path/to/other-repo --path /path/to/other-repo
--repo-root is an alias for --project-root; supplying both requires matching
values. A scope error identifies the selected root boundary rather than claiming
the file is missing.
Search uses the existing housekeeping, noise and secret rules. .gald3rignore
controls user search exclusions; Git ignore files are not consulted. --all-files
disables the existing extension noise filter. No history-file exclusion is added
by the timeout or streaming search changes.
